About
Hi, and thanks for stumbling upon this corner of the Internet! I blogged on Sputnik Prose between 2012 and 2014. I've taken down many of the old Sputnik Prose posts other than a remaining sampling, offering an insight into my life and thinking during those years. I do update the blog yearly with a list of books I read in the past year.
You can find me at my online portfolio.
A note on the name:
Sputnik Prose began as Work in Progress, and when I changed the name, it evoked different reactions in my readers (largely Americans). My peers said to them, 'Sputnik' meant trailblazing, far-reaching, or outer space. Those who lived during the Cold War, however, remembered Sputnik as an attempt by the Russian government to cover up oppression in their society.
I do not mean to lend credence to the regime that launched Sputnik, nor do I support Putin today. Yet when I renamed this blog in the early 2010s, Sputnik meant more to me than the 1957 satellite. It stood for the thrill of space travel, and nodded at childhood dreams of blasting off in a rocketship. For now, I channel those dreams into writing science fiction.
Sputnik translates into “fellow traveler," according to Google searches, which fits my goals for my writing then and now. For those reasons, I've decided to let the name stand.
